Biography
Sam Alves is a Brazilian singer born in Fortaleza, Ceará, on June 3, 1989. Abandoned as an infant, he was adopted by a Brazilian couple who later moved the family to Massachusetts in the United States when Sam was four years old. Growing up in a musical household where his mother coached him to sing in church, he eventually returned temporarily to Brazil to study at the Escola de Música de Brasília and record an independent gospel album with his sister. Although he initially pursued pre-medical studies in college, his involvement with university choirs and vocal training redirected his ambitions toward a professional career in music.
In 2013, Sam gained international attention by auditioning for the fourth season of The Voice USA, where judge Shakira famously complimented him in Portuguese. Later that same year, he returned to Brazil to compete in the second season of The Voice Brasil. Coached by singer Claudia Leitte, his emotive performances and popular appeal propelled him to the grand finale, where he emerged as the winner with 43% of the public vote. This victory earned him a contract with Universal Music Brasil and immediate national prominence through television appearances and large-scale performances.
Following his reality television success, Sam released his self-titled debut album in 2014, which quickly topped the iTunes charts and featured the hit single "Be With Me." He embarked on his first major concert tour across Brazil and received the "Experimente" award at the Prêmio Multishow de Música Brasileira later that year. In 2015, he released his second studio album, titled ID, produced by Dalto Max, Gino Martini, and William Naraine. After publicly coming out as a gay man in 2017, he eventually returned to the United States to continue pursuing his artistic and personal endeavors.
