Biography

Samba do Trabalhador is a samba circle created and led by singer and songwriter Moacyr Luz, which has become one of the most important musical gatherings in Rio de Janeiro. The circle was born in May 2005, at Clube Renascença, in Vila Isabel, with the proposal of gathering musicians who had Mondays off, a day they usually do not work, for an informal samba gathering.

Over the years, Samba do Trabalhador has established itself as a stronghold of Rio de Janeiro samba, attracting a loyal audience and becoming a must-visit spot for lovers of Brazilian music. The circle stands out for keeping samba traditions alive, making room for new composers and arrangers, in addition to hosting special guests of national renown. The movement has also taken on the contours of cultural resistance, addressing social agendas in its lyrics and chords.

With a trajectory marked by the release of albums, DVDs, and awards, such as three Brazilian Music Awards, Samba do Trabalhador celebrates its two decades of existence in 2025. The circle continues to be a space for celebration, renewal, and resistance of samba, maintaining the positive energy and joy that characterize the gatherings at Clube Renascença, under the leadership of Moacyr Luz and the participation of musicians such as Gabriel Cavalcante, Alexandre Nunes, Daniel Neves, Álvaro Santos, Mingo, Luiz Augusto, Junior de Oliveira, and Nilson Visual.
