Biography
Sambô is a Brazilian musical group formed in Ribeirão Preto in 2003, widely recognized for creating a unique musical style known as "rock-samba." The band gained national fame by performing cover versions of well-known national and international pop and rock songs using traditional instruments typical of a Brazilian samba circle, blending different genres with remarkable originality. Throughout their career, they have released notable projects such as their self-titled debut CD and DVD in 2009, and the successful live album Estação Sambô in 2012, which featured their hit rendition of Lulu Santos's "Toda Forma de Amor."
The group has undergone several lineup changes over the years, with founding members like Zé da Paz and Ricardo Gama anchoring the project alongside new talents. Vocalist Sandami spearheaded much of their early commercial success before being succeeded by Hugo Rafael in 2015, while musicians such as Júlio Fejuca and Jacques Monastier further shaped their dynamic instrumental foundation. Their charismatic live performances have also led to notable television appearances, including soundtrack features in Rede Globo telenovelas like Sangue Bom and guest spots on programs such as Malhação and Big Brother Brasil.
Maintaining an active presence across the Brazilian music scene, Sambô has collaborated and shared stages with esteemed artists such as Seu Jorge, Jair Rodrigues, and Wilson Simoninha. By continuously reinterpreting classic repertoire—from Jorge Ben Jor and Tim Maia to contemporary indie tracks like Marcelo Camelo's "Samba a Dois"—the group remains a fixture at festivals and private events nationwide. Their innovative fusion continues to inspire various crossover projects within contemporary Brazilian popular music.
