Biography

Sampa Crew is a Brazilian musical group formed in 1987 by rapper, producer, and composer J.C. Sampa. Throughout its history, the group has featured various artists such as Ricardo Anthony, Júnior Vox, DJ Alam Beat, dancers Guru and Ed Carlos, as well as stints by names like Valtinho Jota and singer Dani Voguel. Initially associated with a more socially conscious strand of rap, the collective transitioned to a romantic sound, standing out for blending genres such as contemporary r&b, rap, charme, soul, funk melody, samba-canção, and romantic pagode.

The group gained national prominence in 1988 by participating in the compilation O Som das Ruas. In the 1990s, after scoring significant hits, they signed with the Epic Records label and released their self-titled album Sampa Crew in 1994, which achieved gold certification for over 100,000 copies sold with tracks like "Eterno Amor". Facing pressure from the label to abandon the rap style in favor of exclusively sung tracks, the band refused the proposal and founded their own independent label, Big Posse, boosting albums with major repercussion on radio stations in São Paulo and across Brazil, such as Sampa Crew and Eu Nasci Para te Amar.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Sampa Crew has accumulated a vast discography featuring albums and commemorative DVDs, in addition to receiving nominations for relevant awards such as the Prêmio TIM de Música. The group has remained active with continuous tours and releases, consolidating partnerships with various artists from the national scene and sharing indirect space with Brazilian popular music references such as A Cor do Som.
