Biography

Sarajane de Mendonça Tude is a pioneering Brazilian singer and songwriter recognized for her foundational role in the development of axé music. Emerging from Salvador, Bahia, she blended Caribbean rhythms like reggae with local African influences such as samba, alongside rock and funk elements. Her energetic performances and innovative stage choreography helped bridge the gap between regional Bahian sounds and national audiences, particularly in the Southeast. Along the way, she achieved significant commercial success, earning gold, platinum, and diamond records throughout her career.

Beginning her professional journey at a very young age, Sarajane recorded jingles and performed on the Salvador Carnival circuit, eventually gaining national prominence with hits like "A Roda" in 1987. She also played a crucial mentoring and supportive role for fellow artists, including Carlinhos Brown during the early stages of his career. Her sustained popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s paved the way for subsequent generations of female axé stars, establishing a firm foundation for artists such as Daniela Mercury, Ivete Sangalo, and Claudia Leitte.

Beyond her musical accomplishments, Sarajane has been deeply involved in social and cultural initiatives, founding the Acasa association in 1996 to support local children and adolescents through educational and artistic workshops. Celebrating decades of contribution to trio elétrico culture, she continues to perform and collaborate with prominent figures in the Brazilian music scene, cementing her legacy as one of the true queens of Bahia's Carnival.
