Saul Barbosa was a Brazilian guitarist and composer born in Ilhéus, Bahia. He began his professional career at 17, performing in local clubs and beaches, influenced by the Bossa Nova of João Gilberto and the Tropicalismo of Gilberto Gil. His musical education was also shaped by classical guitarists such as Andrés Segovia, John Williams, Francisco Tárrega, and Baden Powell.

Barbosa's discography includes albums like "Movimento" (1986), "O Ar, o Tempo e o Vento" (1984), and "Bahia, Cidade Aberta" (1995). The latter, released by Dabliú Discos, was acclaimed as one of the best albums of the year and featured collaborations with prominent Brazilian artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Margareth Menezes.
