Biography

Scalene is a prominent Brazilian rock and stoner rock band formed in Brasília in 2009. The group gained major national prominence by participating in the second season of the television show Superstar, broadcast by Rede Globo, where they finished as runners-up and boosted the release of their work through the SLAP label. In 2016, the band achieved a historic milestone in their career by winning the Latin Grammy for Best Portuguese Language Rock Album with the acclaimed record Éter.

Throughout their trajectory, the ensemble underwent several aesthetic and sonic transformations, exploring everything from traditional alternative rock to experimentations incorporating elements of Brazilian music and genres like post-rock and R&B. The group has shared stages and major festivals with various exponents of national music, including names such as Natiruts, Zeca Baleiro, Fresno, Raimundos, and the rapper BK, with whom they collaborated on the protest single "Desarma".

The group's discography features important studio albums such as Cromático, Real/Surreal, Magnetite, Respiro — elected one of the best albums of the second half of 2019 by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics — and Labirinto. Even while facing challenges over the years, including periods of hiatus and line-up changes featuring brothers Gustavo Bertoni and Tomás Bertoni and bassist Lucas Furtado, the band has consolidated itself as one of the central names in contemporary Brazilian rock.
