Biography

Selmma Carvalho is a Brazilian singer, pianist, and songwriter, born in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais. Her musical career stands out for its versatility and emotional interpretation, exploring a repertoire that ranges from original songs to works by renowned Brazilian composers. Carvalho began her classical piano studies at the age of eight with her aunt Luiza Maria Fernandes dos Santos, and later deepened her knowledge with a degree in piano from UFMG and in Fine Arts from FUMA. Her artistic journey is marked by a strong connection with Brazilian popular music (MPB), where her voice and compositions find a space for authentic expression.

Throughout her career, Selmma Carvalho has released several albums, such as "Pura Razão do Sentido" (2026), "Minha Festa" (2013), "O Que Será Que Está na Moda?" (2006), and "Cada Lugar na Sua Coisa" (2000). In her works, she interprets both established names in music and contemporary composers, in addition to presenting her own creations. Her nomination for the Sharp Music Award in the Revelation Singer category in 1997, following the release of her first solo album, "Selmma Carvalho", demonstrates the recognition of her talent since the beginning of her career.

Selmma Carvalho has also collaborated with other artists and participated in relevant musical projects. Her music is characterized by clear diction and an expressive vocal timbre, which convey emotion and depth in every performance. The artist remains active in the music scene, seeking unconventional sounds and exploring instrumental richness in her productions, as evidenced in her most recent work "Pura Razão do Sentido", with arrangements and musical production by Paulo Santos, co-founder of the group UAKTI.
