Biography

Serena Assumpção was a talented Brazilian singer, songwriter, and cultural producer born in São Paulo. She was deeply rooted in a rich musical family as the daughter of the iconic singer Itamar Assumpção and the sister of singer Anelis Assumpção, dedicating a significant portion of her life to preserving her father's artistic legacy. Throughout her career, she also carved out her own distinct path in the Brazilian music scene before her untimely passing in 2016 due to breast cancer.

Between 2009 and 2015, she meticulously recorded her debut and only studio album, Ascensão, which was released posthumously in 2016 to widespread critical acclaim. The ambitious project featured over forty guest appearances by prominent contemporary artists such as Céu, Tulipa Ruiz, Karina Buhr, Mãeana, Xênia França, and Caetano Veloso. The album's remarkable artistic achievement earned it a Latin Grammy nomination and solidified her lasting impact on national music.

Her memory and cultural contributions continue to be honored and kept alive by her sister Anelis Assumpção. Posthumous celebrations of her work included live release shows in São Paulo featuring many of the musicians who collaborated on her record, as well as the release of special tracks like "Logunedé". Through her singular vision, Serena cemented her place alongside celebrated figures of Brazilian popular music.
