Jalcireno Fontoura de Oliveira, widely known as Sereno, is a fundamental name in the history of Brazilian samba. Born in Rio de Janeiro on May 24, 1940, Sereno is recognized as one of the founders of the iconic carnival block Cacique de Ramos and, crucially, of the samba group Fundo de Quintal, since its formation in the 1970s. His contribution to the genre goes beyond founding groups, as he is the inventor of the tantã, a percussion instrument that became a trademark of Fundo de Quintal and revolutionized the sound of samba and pagode.
