Biography

Sérgio de Melo Hinds was born in Rio de Janeiro on September 22, 1948. He is a prominent Brazilian guitarist, singer, and radio host who began his professional musical journey in 1969 by founding the pioneering group O Terço, remaining the only member to participate in all phases of the band's history.

Throughout his career, Hinds collaborated extensively with various MPB greats, performing and recording with renowned artists such as Ivan Lins, Jorge Ben Jor, Walter Franco, and Marcos Valle. In 1979, following lineup changes involving Flávio Venturini and Sérgio Magrão, he embarked on a solo career, blending rock elements with reggae and samba. Over the decades, he has contributed to numerous albums, released solo material interpreting works by composers like Pixinguinha, and shared the stage with guitarists such as Luiz Carlini and Nuno Mindelis.

In addition to his performance work, Hinds has expanded his presence into radio broadcasting and literature, presenting programs and co-authoring a book commemorating five decades of O Terço. Recognized for his instrumental prowess, he was honored by Rolling Stone Brasil as one of the top Brazilian guitar and acoustic guitar masters.
