Born in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Natureza (full name Sérgio Roberto Ferreira Varela) is a highly respected Brazilian lyricist, poet, composer, cultural producer, and journalist. His interest in poetry was inherited from his father, who also wrote poems and even performed them on the radio. Natureza's early life was marked by artistic encouragement from his parents, and he even studied classical piano as a child.

Natureza's career as a lyricist gained significant traction through his collaborations with prominent Brazilian musicians. His most fruitful partnership was with Tunai, with whom he penned numerous hits, including "As Aparências Enganam," famously recorded by Elis Regina, and "Eternamente," a hit for Gal Costa. He also collaborated with other renowned artists such as Paulinho da Viola, Lenine, Guinga, and Sérgio Sampaio, contributing to a vast repertoire of over 250 recorded songs.

Beyond his work as a songwriter, Natureza has also made significant contributions as a cultural producer and curator. He has been involved in projects like "Projeto Novo Canto," which showcased emerging talents, and "MPB Prêt-à-Porter," featuring established female and male singers. His poetic work has also been published, with anthologies like "O Surfista no Dilúvio" and "Minimal Necessário."
