Biography
Sérgio Pamplona, known as Pamps, was a Brazilian musician who stood out as a bassist, guitarist, and composer. His musical career began in the São Paulo underground scene of the 1980s, where he became an important figure in the national post-punk movement.
Pamps played in relevant bands such as Isca de Polícia, alongside Itamar Assumpção, and was the leader and guitarist of the band Smack, formed in 1983. With Smack, he released albums like "Ao Vivo no Mosh" (1985) and "Noite e Dia" (1986), which became milestones of Brazilian post-punk, influenced by names like Gang of Four and Talking Heads. The band was characterized by a raw, experimental sound with poetic and introspective lyrics.
In addition to his work with Smack, Pamps also collaborated with other artists and projects, maintaining an authentic artistic stance averse to commercial concessions. His contribution to Brazilian music is remembered for its originality and the influence he exerted on subsequent generations of musicians. Sérgio Pamps Pamplona passed away on November 5, 2015, at the age of 62, in Campinas (SP), due to complications from cirrhosis.
