Biography

Sidiel Vieira is a highly respected Brazilian bassist, composer, and arranger with over two decades of experience on the São Paulo jazz scene. He began his musical journey at a young age, attending institutions like the Municipal School of Music and the Free University of Music. His early career included performances with the Tom Jobim Youth Orchestra, where he shared the stage with notable Brazilian artists such as Dominguinhos, Alaíde Costa, and Filó Machado. Vieira's extensive collaborations include work with Brazilian jazz luminaries like Hamilton de Holanda, Cesar Camargo Mariano, and Romero Lubambo, as well as international figures like Dianne Reeves and Marcus Gilmore. He has released two solo albums, "Sidiel Vieira Quinteto" and "Traços Urbanos," and is currently a professor at EMESP (São Paulo State School of Music).

Vieira's versatility is evident in his diverse musical projects. He is a member of the duo 2VIEIRA with his brother Sidmar Vieira, the Mani Padme Trio, and frequently collaborates with other prominent instrumental musicians in Brazil. His discography also features contributions to albums by artists such as Dori Caymmi, Mônica Salmaso, and Proveta. His playing style is characterized by a deep understanding of Brazilian rhythms and jazz harmonies, making him a sought-after sideman and bandleader.

Beyond his performance and recording career, Sidiel Vieira is dedicated to music education. As a professor at EMESP, he imparts his knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians, teaching acoustic and electric bass, ensemble practice, and harmony.
