Biography

Silvério Rocha Pontes was born in Laje do Muriaé around 1960 and grew up in a family deeply connected to music, following in his father's footsteps by choosing the trumpet as his instrument. His artistic journey began in childhood when he joined the Lira da Esperança band and soon caught attention for his instrumental talent, which led him to play at dances and acquire his first trumpet in his youth. Over the years, he moved to Niterói and expanded his activity in the Brazilian music scene, joining prominent groups and collaborating with great names in our music such as Luiz Melodia and Tim Maia.

One of the most striking moments of his career occurred in 1986, when he met trombonist Zé da Velha at the famous Boca da Noite bar in Rio de Janeiro. The partnership gave rise to the renowned instrumental duo Zé da Velha & Silvério Pontes, with whom he recorded several acclaimed albums, such as "Só Gafieira" and "Ele e Eu", receiving prominent nominations and awards from specialized critics. This union solidified his name as one of the great defenders of choro and gafieira, keeping the Brazilian instrumental tradition alive alongside memorable partners.

In addition to his established work as a duo, Silvério Pontes continued to explore his compositional side and collaborate with other great exponents of instrumental music, such as pianist Antonio Guerra, with whom he released the album "Coração Brasileiro". With notable contributions to the national discography and collaborations alongside artists such as Yamandu Costa, Guinga, and Ed Motta, the trumpeter built a solid artistic reputation based on the lyricism and precision of his blowing.
