Biography

Silvia Goes, born in São Paulo on June 7, 1947, is a renowned Brazilian pianist, composer, and arranger. Her musical journey began early, at the age of five, when she was already strumming chords on the acoustic guitar and piano, instruments introduced to her by her mother, a piano teacher, and her father, a guitar player. At 11, she made her professional debut in a regional ensemble on Rádio PRG8 in Bauru, where she also performed as a singer. During this period, she participated in TV festivals and frequented nightclubs, where she had the opportunity to perform alongside great names of Bossa Nova and traditional Samba, such as Silvinha Telles, Aracy de Almeida, and Alaíde Costa. Her versatility led her to incursions in musical theater, sharing the stage with Milton Nascimento and Tuca.

In the 1970s, Silvia Goes expanded her work into arranging, composing soundtracks for TV commercials and programs, as well as scoring animated films by Maurício de Sousa. This phase marked a transition to the piano as her main instrument, performing alongside musicians like Dominguinhos, Hermeto Pascoal, and Arismar do Espírito Santo, whom she married and with whom she had two children, who are also musicians: Thiago Espírito Santo and Bia Goes. Her international career was also consolidated with performances at jazz festivals in Italy and Denmark, and several tours through Europe and South America, notably with singer Toquinho, with whom she collaborated for over two decades.

In addition to her vast discography, which includes albums like "Piano à Brasileira" (2000), "Resistindo" (2004), and "Um Novo Rumo" (2022), Silvia Goes is the author of books on music and harmony, such as "O Cérebro Musical" and "A Música no Divã". Her approach goes beyond performance and composition, extending to pedagogy and music therapy, where she developed her own method focused on the relationship between music and human development. Recognized as a "master of harmony", Silvia Goes continues to inspire new generations with her deep connection to Brazilian music and her relentless search for new forms of sonic expression.
