Biography

Senor Abravanel, widely known by his stage name Silvio Santos, was born in Rio de Janeiro on December 12, 1930. The son of Sephardic Jewish immigrants, he began his professional career as a street vendor and salesman before standing out in radio and, subsequently, establishing himself as the greatest icon in the history of Brazilian television. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he founded the Silvio Santos Group and the Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão (SBT), becoming a central figure in the country's popular culture and entertainment.

In addition to his prominent work as a TV host and businessman, Silvio Santos also ventured into the music scene throughout his life. He became known for recording traditional Carnival marchinhas, achieving great popularity with standout songs like Coração Corintiano. His voice and charisma extended beyond the television studios, leaving behind phonographic recordings that dialogue with Brazil's festive culture and with tributes received from Carnival blocks and samba schools, such as Tradição.

Silvio passed away on August 17, 2024, at the age of 93, in São Paulo, as a victim of bronchopneumonia. His legacy in communication and music remains alive in the memory of the Brazilian public, having directly and indirectly influenced several generations of artists and communicators, such as the actor and singer Tiago Abravanel.
