Biography

Simone Vagnini Guimarães was born in Santa Rosa de Viterbo and carries music in her roots, being the granddaughter of maestro Antônio Guimarães. In her childhood, she took her first musical steps with a cavaquinho and, later, perfected her studies at the Carlos Gomes Conservatory in Ribeirão Preto. Her career gained prominence when she met Milton Nascimento, who became her artistic godfather and invited her to study in Belo Horizonte, even participating in his concert season.

Throughout her career, Simone consolidated expressive partnerships with great names of national culture, such as Francis Hime, Guinga, Leila Pinheiro, and Elba Ramalho. In 1997, she released the album Cirandeiro, which earned her nominations for the Sharp Award in the categories of best singer and best arrangement, in addition to achieving great projection by being part of the soundtrack of the telenovela A Indomada. Her artistic versatility also encompasses composition and instrumentation, transitioning through genres such as samba-canção, baião, and toada.

The recognition of her talent crossed national borders when she was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Portuguese Language Song, for the track Carta à Amiga Poeta, composed in partnership with Francis Hime. With a rich discography that includes works such as Piracema, Aguapé, and Chão de aquarela, the artist remains a striking voice of MPB, maintaining strong aesthetic connections with the musical "mineiridade" inherited from Milton Nascimento.
