Biography

Olegário José Godoy, artistically known as Sorocabinha, was born on January 3, 1895, in Dois Córregos, in the interior of São Paulo. Son of Nhô Juca Sorocaba, also known as Sorocabão, who was a singer and 10-string guitar player, Sorocabinha inherited his talent for rural music from his father. His artistic career began at rural festivals and pilgrimages, where he played the 10-string guitar and sang.

In 1924, Sorocabinha was brought by Cornélio Pires into the "Turma Caipira", participating in recordings and performances in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It was during this period that Cornélio Pires nicknamed him "Sorocabinha", in reference to his father.

In 1929, he teamed up with Manuel Rodrigues Lourenço, forming the duo "Mandi e Sorocabinha". Together, they recorded around 70 records, participated in the film "Vamos Passear" and their songs became historical documents for portraying social and political themes of the era. Sorocabinha ended his artistic career in 1951.
