Biography

Inaldo Cavalcante de Albuquerque, widely known as Maestro Spok, is a renowned Brazilian saxophonist and composer dedicated to the traditional genre of frevo. Born in Igarassu and raised in Abreu e Lima before moving to Recife, he began his musical studies in the mid-1980s and quickly established himself among Pernambuco's premier musicians by working with legendary local maestros and studying at the Centro Profissional de Criatividade Musical do Recife.

In 1996, he founded the ensemble that would eventually become the internationally acclaimed SpokFrevo Orquestra in 2004. Under his direction, the big band introduced innovative jazz influences, solo improvisations, and modern rhythmic approaches to classic frevo compositions, sparking debate among purists while successfully broadcasting Pernambuco's rich musical heritage across Europe, the United States, and beyond. He has collaborated extensively with prominent national artists such as Alceu Valença, Elba Ramalho, Lenine, and Sivuca.

Beyond his performance career, Maestro Spok has played a central role in organizing the grand closing spectacles of the Recife Carnival since 2007, frequently gathering hundreds of musicians on stage. Honored as a modern ambassador of frevo, his contributions to recording landmark albums like Passo de anjo have solidified his legacy in Brazilian instrumental music.
