Biography

Formed in Recife, Pernambuco, in 2001, the SpokFrevo Orquestra is a Brazilian big band dedicated to promoting the frevo genre both within Brazil and internationally. Led by Maestro Spok (Inaldo Cavalcante de Albuquerque), the orchestra comprises eighteen musicians who blend the traditional elements of frevo with jazz improvisation, creating a unique and vibrant sound. Their music is characterized by intricate arrangements, high energy, and a spirit of freedom that honors frevo's roots while pushing its boundaries.

The SpokFrevo Orquestra has gained significant recognition for its innovative approach to frevo. Their album "Passo de Anjo" was lauded by "O Estado de S. Paulo" as one of the best albums of 2004. The group has also received accolades such as the Prêmio da Música Brasileira for best instrumental music album and best group in the instrumental category. Their international career received a boost with tours in Europe, showcasing the universality of their music.

Beyond their musical achievements, the SpokFrevo Orquestra, through Maestro Spok's initiatives like the Instituto Passo de Anjo, contributes to artistic education for children and adolescents in the Recife metropolitan area. They have collaborated with numerous renowned Brazilian artists, including Gilberto Gil, Elba Ramalho, and Alceu Valença, further cementing their role as ambassadors of frevo and Brazilian instrumental music.
