Biography

Stan Getz was an American jazz saxophonist who played a pivotal role in popularizing the Brazilian bossa nova movement worldwide. After establishing himself as a prominent figure in cool jazz during the 1950s, Getz shifted his focus toward Brazilian rhythms in the early 1960s. His collaborations with legendary Brazilian artists like João Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Astrud Gilberto resulted in timeless global hits such as "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Desafinado".

Throughout his illustrious career, Getz earned multiple Grammy Awards and performed with a wide array of musical greats. His partnership with Charlie Byrd on the 1962 album Jazz Samba helped bridge the gap between American jazz and Brazilian bossa nova. Even as his later career explored jazz fusion and acoustic jazz, his enduring legacy remains deeply intertwined with the dissemination of Brazilian music to international audiences.
