Biography

Stellinha Egg, artistic name of Stella Maria Egg, was born in Curitiba on July 18, 1914. Influenced by her family since childhood, she began singing at the age of five at Evangelical Church festivals, later emerging on Rádio Clube Paranaense before winning a contest that took her to Rádio Tupi in São Paulo and, in the 1940s, to Rádio Tupi in Rio de Janeiro. Recognized as a specialist in popular and folk music, she stood out for rescuing and promoting traditional Brazilian songs, in addition to touring several states in Brazil and European countries.

Throughout her artistic career, she recorded important songs and albums, consolidating highly relevant partnerships with fundamental names in Brazilian music, such as Luiz Gonzaga, Dorival Caymmi, and Silvio Caldas. She was married to the renowned maestro and arranger Lindolfo Gaya, with whom she also shared important moments of her artistic production in the golden years of Brazilian radio. Her recordings of folk repertoire became fundamental references for the preservation of the country's musical roots.

In the 1980s, after the passing of her husband, she decided to return to her hometown, Curitiba, where she definitively retired from the stage and microphones. Stellinha Egg passed away in her hometown on June 17, 1991, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of folk interpretation and popular song in Brazil.
