Biography

Suricato is a Brazilian musical project created in 2009 by singer, producer, and guitarist Rodrigo Suricato in Rio de Janeiro. Initially formed as a band that included members such as Diogo Gameiro and Mário Vargas, the project evolved through various phases while maintaining a distinct musical versatility that blended folk rock, pop, indie folk, and MPB. Before gaining mainstream recognition, Rodrigo established himself as a prominent supporting guitarist for notable artists like Tiago Iorc, Paulinho Moska, and Nando Reis.

The project rose to national prominence in 2014 as a finalist in the first season of the Rede Globo reality show SuperStar, known for its original compositions and use of unconventional instruments. Following this exposure, Suricato released acclaimed albums such as "Pra Sempre Primavera" and "Sol-Te", and later performed at Rock in Rio alongside Raul Midón. Rodrigo also became the lead singer of Barão Vermelho in 2017 while continuing his work under the Suricato banner, collaborating with acts like Melim and Vitor Kley, and receiving Latin Grammy nominations.

Throughout its existence, the project underwent several lineup changes, eventually transitioning into a one-man band format and later releasing albums like "Suricato Sessions" and "Marshmallow Flor de Sal" with a new backing ensemble. In 2023, Rodrigo announced the end of the group's activities to focus on his solo career, later celebrating significant milestones with veteran artists like Ritchie. His multifaceted contributions to Brazilian rock and folk have cemented his legacy alongside contemporaries such as Lulu Santos and Kassin.
