Biography
The group Sururu na Roda emerged in 2000, from the meeting of music students from UniRio, in Rio de Janeiro. The initial lineup featured Nilze Carvalho, Camila Costa, Fabiano Salek, and Sílvio Carvalho. The idea to form the group was born in the university gardens, where the members met and started playing together. Shortly after, the experience of playing together resulted in the official formation of Sururu na Roda, which soon found its main artistic territory in Lapa, the bohemian district of Rio de Janeiro.
Sururu na Roda stood out for its role in the revitalization of Lapa, combining research into traditional Brazilian repertoire with new arrangements and an interpretation marked by the spontaneity of samba circles. The group became part of a generation of artists that helped consolidate Lapa as one of the main hubs of contemporary Rio de Janeiro samba. Over the years, the group has shared recordings and performances with important names in Brazilian music, such as Chico Buarque, Zeca Pagodinho, Dona Ivone Lara, Monarco, Diogo Nogueira, Péricles, and Mart'nália.
With a discography that includes albums like "Arco da Velha" (2002), "Sururu na Roda" (2004), "Que Samba Bom" (2008), "Se Você Me Ouvisse" (2011), and "Sururu na Roda Ao Vivo" (2013), the group celebrates its 25-year career with the album "Na Linha do Tempo" (2026). This work, with musical direction by Rildo Hora, revisits Sururu's history through arrangements of sambas that marked its trajectory, paying tribute to masters and composers who influenced the group.
