Biography

The Tambolelê Group is a musical collective originally from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, founded in 1995. Its artistic proposal is the revaluation of the richness of Afro-Minas rhythms, with strong inspiration in the sonority and poetry of the drums, exploring manifestations such as Tambor de Minas, Congado, and Folia de Reis. The group is known for its vibrant performances that evoke the Black heritage of Brazilian cultural roots, blending ancestral rhythms with contemporary influences.

The founding members of Tambolelê, such as Sérgio Pererê, Santonne Lobato, and Geovanne Sassá, in addition to musicians like Ivan Corrêa, are also responsible for making many of the instruments they use, which gives the group a unique sound identity. This characteristic, combined with their energetic performance, has taken them to performances all over Brazil and even in other countries, consolidating their presence in the Afro-Brazilian music scene.

In addition to their musical work, Tambolelê is also dedicated to social and educational projects, teaching percussion workshops for underprivileged communities and institutions. In 2000, the group gained prominence by winning third place at Rede Globo's Brazilian Music Festival with the song "Tempo das Águas". Tambolelê has already collaborated with or had its instruments used by renowned artists such as Paralamas do Sucesso, Uakti, Milton Nascimento, Djavan, and Maurício Tizumba.
