Tânia Maria is a celebrated Brazilian singer, composer, bandleader, and pianist who has captivated international audiences with her vibrant fusion of jazz, samba, bossa nova, and pop. Born into a musical family in São Luís, Maranhão, she began studying piano at the age of seven and demonstrated precocious talent by winning a local music competition at just thirteen years old. After briefly pursuing law studies, she launched her recording career with early releases that laid the groundwork for her distinctive rhythmic style, characterized by a unique blend of Brazilian grooves and sophisticated jazz harmonies.

Relocating to Paris in the mid-1970s, Tânia Maria expanded her global reach, eventually signing with Concord Records and releasing acclaimed works such as Piquant, which earned her the prestigious Golden Leonard Feather Award. Her dynamic artistry led to a Grammy nomination in 1985 for Best Female Jazz Vocal Performance, cementing her status as a formidable force on the international jazz scene. Over the course of her career, she has released more than twenty-five albums and toured extensively across the globe's most prominent jazz festivals.
