Biography

The band Tarkus emerged in São Paulo, SP, in November 2000, with the proposal of making progressive rock inspired by the traditions of 70s bands. The group's name is a tribute to the second album by the British band Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), although Tarkus is not a cover band.

Tarkus's sound is marked by complex arrangements, prominent keyboards, and vocals that were initially sung in English, but later shifted to Portuguese. The band has had various line-ups over the years, but has maintained musicians Mickey Nicolas (keyboards) and Luiz Teixeira (bass and backing vocals) as its core. Tarkus has released studio albums such as "A Gaze Between The Past And The Future" (2002) and "Mundus Novus" (2006), as well as live recordings like "Ao Vivo Em Niterói" (2005).

The band is recognized for its ability to create elaborate soundscapes and for keeping the flame of progressive rock alive in Brazil, influencing and inspiring other musicians of the genre. The quality of their live performances and the depth of their compositions solidify Tarkus as an important name in the Brazilian progressive scene.
