Biography
Tasha and Tracie Okereke are a Brazilian rap duo composed of twin sisters from Jardim Peri, in the North Zone of São Paulo. Born to a Nigerian father and a Brazilian mother, the sisters first gained national attention as fashion icons, activists, and creators of the blog 'Expensive $h1t,' which focused on the self-esteem and autonomy of Black youth from the periphery through art and fashion. Before transitioning into music, they worked various jobs in telemarketing and retail while frequenting the Batalha do Santa Cruz, a legendary rap battle spot where they were encouraged by rapper Drik Barbosa to launch their first creative projects. \n\nTheir musical career officially began in the underground scene of São Paulo, first as DJs and then as MCs after signing with the Ceia Ent. label. They released their debut project 'Cachorra Kmikze' followed by the acclaimed EP 'Rouff' (2019) in partnership with Ashira. However, it was the 2021 EP 'Diretoria' that consolidated their status as major forces in Brazilian hip-hop. The album, which blends rap and funk, explores themes of female empowerment and social mobility, earning them a nomination for 'Album of the Year' by the APCA. \n\nIn recent years, Tasha & Tracie have become frequent collaborators with some of Brazil's biggest stars, featuring on tracks by Ludmilla, Djonga, and Gloria Groove. They have performed at major festivals such as Rock in Rio and Primavera Sound. In 2023, they released the EP 'Yin Yang,' a collaborative project with their partners Kyan and Gregory, further expanding their sound into 'love songs' and more personal narratives while maintaining their independent business model under their own company, Expensive $hit.
