Biography
Tatau, stage name of Gilson Menezes dos Santos Dorea, was born in Salvador, Bahia, on January 22, 1969. He began his artistic journey in childhood, singing from the age of 14 and composing from 16, as well as initially working as a percussionist. His first major national breakthrough occurred when he won a festival promoted by the group Olodum with the composition "Protesto do Olodum", which would become one of that musical institution's greatest hits.
At eighteen, he consolidated his professional career by joining the original lineup of the band Araketu, a group with which he achieved enormous notoriety and recorded striking axé music hits, such as "Mal Acostumada" and "Festa na Cidade". Alongside his work as a lead singer, Tatau stood out as a prolific songwriter, having works recorded by various exponents of Brazilian music, including Ivete Sangalo, Chiclete com Banana, and the group Sorriso Maroto.
Throughout his career, the singer has alternated between periods leading Araketu and periods dedicated to his solo career, marked by releases such as the album "Formas e Formas" and live projects. With a strong connection to Bahian culture and carnival rhythms, he has also expanded his international recognition and participated in important audiovisual and television productions in Brazil.
