Biography

Tavinho Moura, artistic name of Otávio Augusto Pinto de Moura, was born in Juiz de Fora on August 9, 1947. A composer, singer, acoustic guitar player, and viola caipira player, he is one of the fundamental figures of the famous Clube da Esquina generation, having grown up in the Floresta neighborhood in Belo Horizonte after his family moved there. His artistic trajectory was consolidated both in popular song and in the creation of award-winning soundtracks for national cinema, standing out for his research and adaptation of elements from Brazilian and Minas Gerais folklore.

Throughout his career, he has released several notable albums, such as his debut album Como Vai Minha Aldeia, from 1978, in addition to acclaimed works like Minhas Canções Inacabadas and O Anjo na Varanda, the latter dedicated to his partner Fernando Brant. His compositions and traditional adaptations gained national prominence in the voices of great interpreters such as Milton Nascimento, Beto Guedes, Almir Sater, Sérgio Reis, Boca Livre, Simone, and Zizi Possi, alongside partnerships with names like Marcus Viana.

His work moves with versatility between urban song and instrumental viola music, with incursions into literature and important cinematic soundtracks, such as Cabaret Mineiro and Noites do Sertão. Nominated for the Latin Grammy, Tavinho Moura remains one of the great preservers and renovators of the musical identity of Minas Gerais.
