Teca Calazans is a well-known Brazilian singer and songwriter who has dedicated much of her career to celebrating and preserving traditional folk music. Born in Vitória, she was raised in Recife, where she developed a deep appreciation for Pernambucan folklore and learned to play the guitar. Her early artistic journey in the 1960s included creative collaborations with fellow luminaries like Geraldo Azevedo and Naná Vasconcelos within a theatrical group, marking the beginning of her lifelong dedication to Brazilian song.

Throughout her diverse career, Calazans expanded her artistic horizons by living and performing in France for a significant period during the 1970s and later returning in 1989. These international experiences allowed her to introduce European audiences to the rich sounds of Brazilian music, releasing notable projects such as Musiques et chants du Brésil. Upon her return to Brazil, she continued to record extensively, collaborating with various musicians and paying homage to classical and popular masters alike.
