Biography

Teófilo Pereira Lima, known professionally as Teo Lima, is a highly respected Brazilian drummer, producer, and composer born in Maceió, Alagoas, on December 28, 1948. He initially began his musical journey playing the trumpet but soon discovered his true passion and calling as a drummer. His exceptional talent and international career led him to become the brand ambassador for Remo, the world's largest drumhead company, in Latin America. Lima's career is marked by significant collaborations and projects that have left a lasting impact on Brazilian music.

In the early 1970s, Teo Lima formed the band Sururu de Capote with Sizão Machado on bass and Luiz Avellar on keyboards. This band became instrumental in accompanying the renowned Brazilian singer Djavan for many years, solidifying Lima's reputation as a sought-after drummer. In 1993, he founded the Batacotô band, producing their debut CD which featured an impressive roster of guest artists, including Gilberto Gil, Dionne Warwick, Ernie Watts, Ivan Lins, and Sivuca. The album's track "Confins" gained widespread recognition after being included in the soundtrack of the Rede Globo soap opera "Renascer."

Throughout his career, Teo Lima has performed and recorded with a vast array of MPB and international artists, including Edu Lobo, Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Xuxa, Gilberto Gil, Stevie Wonder, and Ernie Watts. He has also produced notable albums, such as Edu Lobo's "Meia-noite" and Dionne Warwick's "Aquarela do Brasil." In 2010, he released "Djavan Também é Samba," a project dedicated to the music of Djavan, further cementing his status as a premier interpreter of the singer's work. Lima continues to be an active force in music, leading his own projects and collaborating with other artists.
