Biography

Teresa Cristina Macedo Gomes was born in Rio de Janeiro on February 28, 1968. Initially drawn to foreign pop and rock music in her youth, she discovered a deep connection to samba and MPB after encountering the work of composer Candeia through a college friend. Her career took off in the late 1990s as she began performing at Bar Semente in Lapa, playing a pivotal role in the musical revitalization of the neighborhood alongside her accompanying band, Grupo Semente. Over the decades, she has released critically acclaimed albums interpreting the repertoires of legendary Brazilian composers like Cartola, Noel Rosa, and Paulinho da Viola.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Teresa Cristina gained widespread acclaim for her virtual live streams on Instagram, where she performed acoustic renditions of classic sambas and MPB tracks while engaging audiences with intimate conversations. Her cultural contributions during this period earned her the Artist of the Year award from the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA). Beyond her musical endeavors, she has expanded her media presence by hosting programs such as Botequim da Teresa on UOL and taking over as the host of Samba na Gamboa on TV Brasil.
