Biography
Terra Trio was a Brazilian musical group formed in 1966 in Rio de Janeiro. Its original members were Zé Maria Rocha on piano, Fernando Costa on double bass, and Ricardo Costa on drums. The trio quickly stood out in the music scene, becoming known for their versatility and ability to accompany great names in Brazilian music.
Just the year after its formation, Terra Trio began accompanying singer Maria Bethânia in shows and recordings, participating in crucial moments in her career. This partnership bore fruit, culminating in the release of the group's first album, "Terra à vista", in 1969, by the Elenco record label. The record is considered a milestone in the trio's discography and in MPB, presenting a sound that blended jazz, bossa nova, and samba. The group continued its artistic trajectory until 1980.
After a period of inactivity, Terra Trio reunited in 1983 for a tour in Argentina with Maria Bethânia, recording the album "Ciclo" with the singer. In the same year, the trio performed in Italy alongside other great names such as Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Dorival Caymmi, and Nana Caymmi, in the show "Bahia de todos os sambas". Terra Trio's trajectory intertwines with the history of various artists and movements in Brazilian popular music, leaving an important legacy in MPB.
