Biography
Born in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, in the center of Brazil, Thamires Tannous is a singer and songwriter known for her clear and deep voice. Her upbringing surrounded by nature in her region deeply influenced her music, with nature being a recurring theme in her songs. Tannous showed an early aptitude for music, appearing in a video singing at the age of two and composing on the piano by four. She studied violin for five years before discovering her passion for singing while performing with an orchestra. Her musical influences are diverse, stemming from her parents' record collections, which included MPB artists like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim, and Elis Regina, as well as traditional Brazilian folk styles and Arabic music from her Lebanese heritage.
Tannous pursued her musical education formally, earning a degree in Popular Singing from Souza Lima College in São Paulo. She also expanded her horizons by studying jazz and improvisation in France, where she collaborated with cellist Vincent Segal. Her debut album, "Canto para Aldebarã" (2014), produced by Dante Ozzetti, paid homage to her Lebanese roots, blending Arab percussion with contemporary Brazilian melodies and receiving critical acclaim. Her second album, "Canto-correnteza" (2019), produced by Michi Ruzitschka, further showcased her unique style, incorporating Afro-Brazilian percussion and featuring collaborations with artists like Chico César and Vincent Segal.
Thamires Tannous's music is characterized by a unique fusion of her Brazilian heritage with global influences. She has performed internationally in countries such as Austria, Germany, Portugal, and France, and has been recognized with awards like the Prêmio Grão de Música. Recent releases include singles like "Dança pela Casa" (2024) and collaborations with artists such as Carlos Malta and Momi Maiga. Currently based between São Paulo and Vienna, Tannous continues to work on new music, with her third album in development, further solidifying her position as a distinctive voice in Brazilian music.
