Biography

The Pop's was a Brazilian rock instrumental group formed in 1963 by three students from the Federal Technical School Celso Sucow da Fonseca in Rio de Janeiro. Initially a trio, the band evolved to include more members and gained recognition during the "iê iê iê" wave of the 1960s. Their name, "The Pop's," was inspired by the word "popcorn," reflecting their energetic performances.

The group's early recordings included covers of international songs and Brazilian popular music. They were known for their creative rock arrangements of traditional carnival songs, Christmas carols, and birthday tunes, showcasing their versatility. The Pop's also ventured into samba-rock fusions, backing singer Oswaldo Nunes and also releasing their own material in this style.

Throughout their career, The Pop's experienced line-up changes, with some members forming spin-off groups. Despite these shifts, the band continued to release music, with their instrumental prowess and unique interpretations of various genres marking their contribution to Brazilian music. The original lineup even reunited in the early 2000s, leading to reissues of their early albums.
