Biography

Thiago Espírito Santo is a renowned Brazilian bass player, composer, and producer born in São Paulo in 1980. Coming from a deeply musical household, he is the son of multi-instrumentalist Arismar do Espírito Santo and pianist Sílvia Goes. From an early age, he dedicated himself to mastering the electric bass, ultimately developing a distinctive technique and personal style that set him apart in the contemporary instrumental music scene. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has established himself as a versatile and celebrated figure in Brazilian jazz and instrumental music.

Throughout his extensive career, Thiago has performed and recorded both in Brazil and internationally alongside legendary artists such as Hermeto Pascoal, Dominguinhos, Yamandú Costa, and Hamilton de Holanda. In addition to his solo projects, he has engaged in diverse musical collaborations, including the instrumental trio UMDOISTRIO, the fusion project Neural Code alongside guitarist Kiko Loureiro, and a tenure with the acclaimed group O Teatro Mágico. His talent has taken him to stages across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia, cementing his reputation as a global ambassador of Brazilian bass artistry.

Beyond his performance career, Thiago is an active educator who has conducted workshops and masterclasses throughout Brazil and authored instructional bass methods. With a dozen albums released under his own name and in collaborative formats, he has also made a significant impact as a music producer, earning a Latin Grammy nomination in 2012 for his work on an album by Oswaldinho do Acordeon. His continuous drive to explore new sonic territories places him firmly among the leading instrumentalists of his generation.
