Biography

Thildo dos Santos Gama was born in Salvador, Bahia, where he established himself as one of the great pioneers of Bahian rock and Raul Seixas's first guitarist. His musical journey began in his teens in the 1950s, culminating in the foundation of the group Relâmpagos do Rock in 1962 alongside Raul Seixas and Enelmar Chagas, a lineup that later evolved into The Panthers. Throughout his career, Thildo also joined ensembles such as Thildo e Seus Bossas and Os Jovens, in addition to releasing remarkable works like the 1967 single with Os Terríveis, considered a pioneer of the surf music genre in Bahia.

In addition to his intense activity in the music scene of Salvador, Thildo Gama built a multifaceted career as a university professor, tax auditor for the Treasury Department of the State of Bahia, and, in his later phase, a clown with the characters Zig Zig Zaa and Tô de boa. He also stood out as a writer by publishing works dedicated to the memory of Raul Seixas, such as "A trajetória de um ídolo" and "Raul Seixas, entrevistas e depoimentos". In 2009, he reunited with Os Panteras for a memorable performance at the Virada Cultural in São Paulo, playing the band's classic album in its entirety.

Thildo passed away in 2011 in his hometown, a victim of brain cancer, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of Brazilian rock. During his life, he shared stages and projects with important music names, keeping the flame of early rock and Jovem Guarda alive. His contribution to Bahian culture remains immortalized through his independent records, participation in international folk groups, and his eternal partnership with Raul Seixas.
