Biography

Thomas Pappon is a multifaceted Brazilian artist, known for his work as a musician, journalist, writer, and radio scriptwriter. Born in São Paulo, Pappon stood out in the Brazilian music scene of the 1980s as a member of iconic post-punk bands such as Fellini, Smack, and Voluntários da Pátria. His musical career is marked by experimentation and the fusion of genres, exploring everything from post-punk to elements of bossa nova and samba, as evidenced in his work with Fellini and, later, with his solo project The Gilbertos.

In addition to his musical trajectory, Pappon built a solid career as a journalist, having worked for the BBC Brasil international service. This duality between music and journalism shaped his artistic perspective, allowing him to approach diverse themes with depth and originality. His experience as a music journalist, especially during the heyday of Bizz magazine, made him a living archive of the memory of the Brazilian underground of the 1980s.

Since the mid-1990s, Thomas Pappon has resided in London, where he continues his artistic production. He has released several albums with The Gilbertos, exploring a sound that reflects his experiences and influences. More recently, Pappon also ventured into literature, releasing his first book, "O Enterro do Velho Punk", which brings together tales and adventures with his characteristic sense of humor and verve. His work, both musical and literary, is a testament to his constant reinvention and his deep connection with Brazilian culture.
