Biography

Luiz "Thunderbird" Fernando Duarte, better known as Thunderbird or Thunder, was born in São Paulo on April 8, 1961. Initially educated in dentistry, he found his true path in music and communication, building a remarkable career in Brazilian pop culture as a musician, VJ, and radio broadcaster. In the 1980s, he began his foray into the music scene and founded, in 1986, the band Devotos de Nossa Senhora Aparecida, in addition to being part of several other projects over the years, such as Tarântulas e Tarantinos and stints as a bassist in Júpiter Maçã's band.

His national notoriety skyrocketed starting in 1990, when he became one of the pioneering VJs of MTV Brasil, where he hosted emblematic shows like Lado B and CEP MTV. Thunderbird's irreverent style and strong on-camera presence left deep marks on Brazilian musical television, even earning him pop culture tributes, such as the character Thunderdog on TV Colosso. Throughout his career on the small screen, he also worked for networks like Rede Globo and Rede Manchete, besides returning to MTV at different times, including the channel's unforgettable closing broadcast in 2013.

In addition to television and music, Thunderbird expanded his work into digital and print media, writing his autobiography Contos de Thunder and hosting podcasts and YouTube channels like Music Thunder Vision. He also maintained a strong presence on the radio and in parallel internet projects, staying active in the production of content focused on music and entertainment. Throughout his life, he overcame serious struggles with chemical dependency with the support of figures from the national rock scene like João Gordo and Nasi, later channeling his energy into practicing sports and continuous artistic creation.
