Biography
Tiago Araripe is a Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Crato, Ceará, in 1951. His musical career is marked by the fusion of various styles and influences, ranging from Brazilian popular culture to international pop music, with a strong poetic presence in his lyrics that transition between humor, sensitivity, and reflection. He began his career in the 1970s in Recife, where he studied architecture and founded the experimental group Nuvem 33. This musical experience led him to drop out of college and move to São Paulo, where he grew close to Tom Zé and joined the São Paulo avant-garde.
In São Paulo, Tiago Araripe shared stages and studios with Tom Zé, participated in the group Papa Poluição, and performed at Lira Paulistana, which produced his first album, "Cabelos de Sansão", released in 1982. This record, later re-released on CD by Zeca Baleiro, is considered a milestone in his career, presenting an innovative sound that blended northeastern rhythms with avant-garde experimentation. The work featured participation from various musicians and collaborations with names such as Augusto de Campos and Décio Pignatari.
After a period away from music, Tiago Araripe was brought back to the musical scene by Zeca Baleiro, with whom he established a successful partnership. He released the album "Baião de Nós" in 2013, with co-production and participation by Baleiro. In 2018, he moved to Portugal, where he released the album "Terramarear" in 2021, a work celebrating his seven decades of life and bringing together collaborations with Brazilian, Portuguese, and African artists. Currently, he remains active in musical production, with the release of the album "Balaio de Viagens" scheduled for 2026.
