Biography

Tihuana is a Brazilian rock band formed in 1999 in São Paulo, known for blending rock, rap, reggae, and Latin music. The group's original lineup consisted of vocalist Adriano "Egypcio" Grande, bassist Román Laurito, guitarist Léo Stuart, drummer PG, and percussionist Fernando Baía. They emerged from the underground scene in São Paulo after evolving from a previous project called Ostheobaldo, quickly capturing national attention with their 2000 debut album, Ilegal, which featured the hit single "Tropa de Elite".

Throughout the 2000s, Tihuana released several successful albums, including A Vida Nos Ensina (2002), Aqui ou em Qualquer Lugar (2003), and Tihuana (2005), working with producers like Rick Bonadio. Their breakout song "Tropa de Elite" gained renewed massive popularity after being featured in the soundtrack of the acclaimed 2007 film of the same name. Over the years, the band shared stages and stylistic territory with prominent Brazilian rock acts like Raimundos, Charlie Brown Jr., CPM 22, and Detonautas Roque Clube, establishing a distinct identity defined by heavy guitar riffs and prominent Latin percussion.

Following line-up changes and a hiatus announced after Egypcio's departure in 2017, the original members reunited in 2024 for the "Tihuana 25 Anos" tour to celebrate the silver anniversary of their debut album. Their musical legacy remains firmly embedded in the Brazilian rock landscape, bridging alternative rock, rapcore, and socially conscious lyricism.
