Biography

Tita Lobo, stage name of Maria de Lourdes Gusmão Lobo, is a Brazilian singer, acoustic guitarist, and songwriter. She began her musical journey in childhood and, in the 1960s, moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she became part of the bossa nova scene and released her self-titled debut solo album in 1964, through Philips Records. Throughout her career, she stood out both in her solo work and in highly relevant collaborations with renowned names in Brazilian music, such as the acclaimed pianist João Donato.

In partnership with musician Edson Lobo, with whom she formed the duo Edson and Tita, the artist explored a repertoire that united religious and secular songs after both became evangelicals. Together, they released important records such as Novidade de Vida, in 1982, and Gosto Tanto, in 2001, an album that featured heavy-hitting guest appearances by Robertinho Silva and Célia Vaz. The duo's trajectory also included international concert tours, visiting cities such as Boston in the first half of the 1990s.

The singer also made her presence felt at festivals and award shows throughout her career, having won the Prêmio Guarani in 1965 and participated in the II International Song Festival. Her discography spans different phases and collaborative projects, including the acclaimed album João Donato Reencontra Maria Tita, released in 2004, cementing her name in the history of Brazilian popular music alongside artists like Chico Buarque and Tom Jobim.
