Biography
Tom Capone, born Luís Antônio Ferreira Gonçalves, began his musical journey in the 1980s in Brasília, working as a guitarist in groups such as Peter Perfeito and Detrito Federal. Later, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he consolidated his career behind the scenes of the record industry and stood out as one of Brazil's greatest music producers. His technical skill and keen ear were fundamental in the completion of several landmark albums in the national scene, having joined Warner Music Brasil as artistic director in 1998.
Throughout his career, Capone collaborated with icons from different strands of Brazilian music, such as Gilberto Gil, Legião Urbana, Maria Rita, Lenine, and Skank. His artistic rigor was so valued that bands like O Rappa even waited months to have his production on works such as the album O Silêncio Q Precede O Esporro. Besides these, he produced heavyweights like Raimundos, Marisa Monte, and Renato Russo.
His premature death occurred in September 2004, in Los Angeles, as a result of a motorcycle accident shortly after participating in the Latin Grammy ceremony, where he was awarded for Maria Rita's album. At that time, he was involved in producing new albums for established names, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of the country's phonographic production, alongside partners and friends like Herbert Vianna.
