Biography
Antônio Rogério Coimbra, artistically known as Toni Platão, was born in Rio de Janeiro on March 2, 1963. He began his prominent journey in Brazilian music in the 1980s, when he served as the lead singer of the rock band Hojerizah. With the group, he recorded important works for the sound of the era, marking his presence in the independent and alternative national rock scene.
Starting in the 1990s, Toni pursued a solo career, expanding his musical horizons by moving through soul and MPB. His solo debut album, released in 1994, featured a praised cover of "Partido alto", composed by Chico Buarque. Throughout his career, he has also been a part of special projects and supergroups, such as Panamericana alongside Dado Villa-Lobos, Dé Palmeira, and Charles Gavin, in addition to leading conceptual shows interpreting compositions by Herbert Vianna.
In addition to his career as a singer, musician, and composer, Toni Platão has worked in media and cultural management. He acted as a sports commentator on radio and television programs and, in 2021, took on the artistic direction of Rádio Roquette Pinto. With a consistent solo discography that includes albums such as Negro Amor and LOV - Labor Omnia Vincit, he has solidified his name in contemporary Brazilian music.
