Biography

Toninho Ferragutti is a renowned Brazilian accordionist, composer, and arranger born in Socorro, São Paulo. Growing up in a musical household, he received his earliest musical teachings from his father, Pedro Ferragutti, who was a saxophonist and composer. He furthered his studies under the guidance of Cláudio Leal Ferreira and Dante D'Alonzo at the Conservatório Gomes Cardim in Campinas, immersing himself in regional styles such as choro, gafieira, and gaúcha music. Before fully committing to his artistic path, he studied veterinary medicine for three years at UNESP in Botucatu before ultimately moving to São Paulo in 1983 to launch his professional music career.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ferragutti has collaborated with an extraordinary array of icons in Brazilian popular and instrumental music, including Gilberto Gil, Edu Lobo, Hermeto Pascoal, Marisa Monte, and Elza Soares. His distinctive artistry has earned him widespread critical acclaim, highlighted by multiple Latin Grammy nominations for standout releases like his solo album Sanfonemas, Festa Na Roça in partnership with Neymar Dias, and Folia de tRreis. In addition to his prolific recording output encompassing over a dozen albums, he has also shared his expertise as an accordion instructor at EMESP Tom Jobim, cementing his legacy as a pillar of Brazilian instrumental music.
