Biography

Toninho Geraes, artistic name of Antônio Carlos de Deus, was born in Belo Horizonte on March 14, 1962. A prominent singer and songwriter in Brazilian popular music, he began his recording career in 1986 with the release of the album Na Aba do Pagode by EMI. He moved to Rio de Janeiro at the invitation of members of the group Inocentes do Samba, consolidating his career in the universe of samba and contributing to important phonographic recordings since the 1980s.

Throughout his career, Toninho has accumulated hundreds of compositions recorded by major names in national music, becoming a highly sought-after songwriter. Among his most celebrated works are classics such as Mulheres, interpreted by artists like Martinho da Vila and Emílio Santiago, and Seu Balancê, immortalized in the voice of Zeca Pagodinho. His relevance in the samba scene also extended to participation in samba-enredo competitions at traditional schools, in addition to a solid discography that includes albums such as Samba de Botequim and Preceito.
