Biography

Emerging from Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, in January 2002, Toque no Altar began as a worship ministry within the Igreja Evangélica Ministério Apascentar. Initially known as Ministério Apascentar de Nova Iguaçu, the group gained national recognition with the release of their debut album, "Toque no Altar," in 2003. The title track of the album, co-written by Davi Sacer and Luiz Arcanjo, became a significant hit, leading to the band officially adopting the name "Toque no Altar" in 2005.

The group's music is characterized by its contemporary Christian sound, often featuring congregational singing and powerful worship anthems. Their early work, including "Toque no Altar" and "Restituição," laid the foundation for their success, earning critical acclaim and a substantial following within the Brazilian gospel music scene. Key members during their formative years included Davi Sacer and Luiz Arcanjo, who were instrumental in songwriting and vocal performance.

Over the years, Toque no Altar has experienced internal shifts, including a notable division in 2007 that led to the formation of another prominent group, Trazendo a Arca.
