Biography

Formed in 2001 in São Paulo, Brazil, Trio Corrente is a dynamic jazz ensemble comprised of pianist Fabio Torres, bassist Paulo Paulelli, and drummer Edu Ribeiro. The trio has carved a unique niche in the Brazilian music scene by masterfully blending traditional Brazilian genres like choro and MPB with the improvisational freedom and harmonic complexity of modern jazz. Their performances are characterized by a captivating balance of virtuosic solos and moments of profound subtlety, engaging both seasoned jazz aficionados and a broader audience.

Since their inception, Trio Corrente has released several acclaimed albums, including "Corrente" (2005), "Volume 2" (2011), and "Volume 3" (2016). Their international recognition soared with the 2014 release of "Song For Maura," a collaboration with Cuban saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera, which garnered both a Grammy Award and a Latin Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album. This collaboration highlighted their ability to seamlessly integrate with renowned international artists while maintaining their distinct Brazilian sound.

Trio Corrente's discography also features significant collaborations, such as the live album "Trio Corrente & Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica de São Paulo ao Vivo" (2018) and "Tem que ser Azul" (2019). Their most recent release, "Sincronia" (2021), continues to showcase their signature aesthetic: a fusion of Brazilian rhythms and harmonies with the improvisational spirit of jazz.
